Transforming Architectural Practice: The Transition to BIM

As ALAN Architecture, we hosted a special seminar titled "Transforming Architectural Practice: The Transition to BIM" on November 1, 2024, with the aim of strengthening collaboration between Turkey and Japan. This event provided a key platform to explore how Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology is transforming the industry, its challenges, and the opportunities that lie ahead.

We were honored to welcome academics, students, and representatives from prestigious Japanese institutions, including Shibaura University of Technology, Denki University, and Chiba University, as well as experts and solution partners from Turkey.

The primary goal of the seminar was to foster information exchange between Turkey and Japan, sharing insights on the role and application of BIM in the construction and architecture sectors of both countries. During the seminar, we had the opportunity to showcase how BIM has transformed our projects at ALAN Architecture, discuss the developments in our sector, and address the challenges we are facing. Experienced Japanese academics and experts also offered valuable insights and recommendations on BIM’s successful implementation in Japan, enabling both countries to learn from one another and improve best practices in their respective construction and architecture industries.

Industry leaders also shared their expertise during the seminar. Their presentations focused on BIM’s usage in Turkey’s architecture and construction sectors, emphasizing the importance of education, infrastructure, and technological investments for effective BIM adoption. Furthermore, comprehensive discussions were held on how BIM contributes to the industry and how it should be more widely embraced in the future.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the speakers, partners, and participants involved in the event. Special thanks to Dr. Fatih Sutcu for making this seminar possible, and to those who enriched the seminar with their contributions: Evren Arin (Autodesk Turkey), Tolga Yücel, Dr. Mehmet Sakin (BIM4TURKEY), Aygen Erkal (buildingSMART Turkey), Furkan Demirci, Melis Koyuncu, Asya Islam (Turkey Design Foundation), Irem Dülek (ITU Engineering Preparation Club). We also appreciate our partners, NTT Architecture and Atölye 4N Architecture. Each of their contributions has been a significant step toward the wider adoption of BIM usage in Turkey.
